My Project

Decodable books are simple books written for beginning readers as they begin to learn the letter combinations and their corresponding sounds. This past school year I am still working with many students who are below grade level due to COVID. I also received an influx of English Language Learners who are just beginning to learn the English language and all it entails.

These decodable texts will introduce and reinforce phonetic patterns, allowing for students to gain confidence in recognizing and reading words!

This confidence will also support the development of fluency. With fluency, comes improved comprehension as they are less focused on decoding the words but rather understanding the text. Decodable texts give students a sense of accomplishment and motivation as readers. As they move through the sequence of the decodable texts, there will be a progression in what they are able to read. This success will give them a positive attitude towards learning. This positive attitude will give them a great foundation in becoming life long readers.

Decodable texts are so important in laying the groundwork for helping students become proficient readers and having a wonderful reading experience that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
