Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best to achieve our high expectations every day.
Our school is located in a low-income area with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
Most of my Intervention students have limited resources outside of school, so school may provide their only chance to experience strategic and engaging academic activities. My goal, every year, is to create a learning environment that is warm, safe, and inviting while having high expectations for my Intervention students' success. Many of my students are reading at least one year below grade level. It is so important that my Intervention students attend school everyday to receive the extra help they need. Since my students will start the year with distance learning, it is even more important they have materials to use at home for now, then transition to in-school learning.
My Project
My students need these classroom basics to use at home and when we return to the classroom. Intervention students have struggled with reading and writing, so having a place to write everyday and see their progress is very important! I will use these binders to create journals for each student to write about the stories we are reading in our daily Guided Reading lessons. A journal will keep their work organized while distance learning from home and can easily transition back to school when we return to in-person learning.
I have many students of color in my Intervention groups and I want to add more authors of color books to my virtual reading platform.
It is so important for my students to relate to what they are reading and find inspiration from others in their community.
