Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a loving and energetic group of kids, with a passion for learning. Our classroom is as diverse in cultures as we are in personalities, and have a large focus on building a sense of community. We are a Title I school where 91% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and 46% of students are considered English Language Learners. As a majority of my students come from low-income families, I must create an environment that is conducive to learning and give them the best shot at success!
My Project
Through this project, I will receive gift cards for a website called Teachers Pay Teachers. On this website many incredible teachers sell their original resources. With this project I will buy reading comprehension activities called "Read it Up" through the Kindergarten Smorgasbord Store. These activities come with anchor charts, writing responses and sequence maps to help enhance reading comprehension through read alouds! Reading aloud to children gives them the opportunity to try on the language and experience of others. It helps them make connections with their lives, and informs their view of themselves and others. Thinking aloud helps children learn how to use comprehension strategies that are important when reading independently.
A huge part of read alouds in the classroom are the activities that are attached!
It helps students further those connections and find joy in the wonders of reading. My goal is to help students fall in love with books and reading as well as enhancing my skills as an educator during read alouds!
