My Students

You can find all kinds of kids in my classroom! Serious, silly, pranksters, and quiet are just a few ways to describe them. While everyone is different, there is one goal we share, learning! Learning from text, learning from each other, and learning about our community and world.

My students come to school every day eager to learn and pushing themselves to be better citizens.

Many of our students have a lot going on at home, often times forcing them to be more mature and responsible than they should be at their age. We provide a school that allows them to forget their troubles and be kids. They love, I mean l-o-v-e, coming to school. They encourage me to work harder to meet their expectations and design interactive lessons to keep them engaged in learning.

My Project

Scholastic News has provided my students with opportunities to learn about the world over the years. There are many ways for students to find out things happening around the world, but Scholastic News provides a safe and kid-friendly medium for learning. It encourages students to ask questions and have conversations about things other than video games and Pokemon Cards. The graphics, articles, and debates have given my students memorable learning experiences.

The students will actually cheer when it's time to read through the newest Scholastic News!

I have found myself having to pull up maps when we discuss articles in the magazine because many don't have a reference point for where places are in relation to our city, country and world. The Map Skills books will be an excellent way to get the students started putting the pieces together. Not to mention, they are also academic standards that need to be mastered!

Lastly, kids love to act and show off! I can't think of a better way to teach history, myths, and fables. Plays are a great way for students to team build, collaborate, and work through disagreements. Then there's always the quiet ones that surprise everyone by coming out of there comfort zone with a BANG!
