My students need a well-stocked classroom library to whet their passion for independent reading. We need high-interest leveled books. We also rely on our library in Readers Workshop.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We call our classroom the Robot Studio. My students are all emerging bilinguals with an insatiable appetite for learning and creative projects. We are engineers, mathematicians, researchers, READERS, writers, and creative artists who LOVE hands-on learning and snuggling up with a good book. Our goal in the 2016-2017 school year is to establish a robust classroom library that inspires each and every student to fall in love with reading.
Too many of my students have no books at home.
It is essential that our classroom library be a resource-rich repository of high-interest books of various lexile levels. Our goal is for ALL students to leave third grade as passionate and competent readers who can capably learn through reading having already mastered learning to read.
We deeply value resources that empower us to become enthusiastic and skilled readers!
My Project
Students typically enter my third-grade classroom reading one to two years below grade level. They typically leave our classroom reading on or above grade level. The 'secret'? Creating the requisite conditions and resources to cultivate a passion for reading.
Our classroom library has seen better days and my personal credit card is just as worn as those well-thumbed texts.
We need to add a few collections of high-interest, leveled texts to keep our library well-stocked and relevant. We also rely on these materials during Readers Workshop when we apply what we've learned in the mini-lesson.
We know that access to high quality books will inspire us to read. Please chip in to help us buy books!
