Read, Imagine, Grow: Engaging Students with Graphic Novels and Magazines

Help me give my students graphic novels, comic books, and magazines to create an engaging, accessible library that will improve their English skills while fostering a love for reading.

This project is fully funded

My Project

The graphic novels, magazines, and comic books I'm requesting will captivate my ENL students by providing visually engaging stories that help bridge the language gap. These materials offer text paired with images, which makes it easier for students to understand the context, follow narratives, and develop their vocabulary in a fun, less intimidating way. By presenting complex ideas through a visual medium, these items will make reading more accessible for students who are still building their English proficiency. Graphic novels and magazines also expose students to diverse cultures, perspectives, and real-world topics, which will not only boost their reading comprehension but also their confidence in using English in their daily lives.

My goal is to create an engaging and culturally relevant library that inspires my students to read more, develop a love for learning, and build their English language skills.

By incorporating high-interest materials like magazines and graphic novels, I hope to foster a positive reading culture in the classroom. I want my students to feel empowered and excited to pick up a book, knowing that they will understand and connect with the stories in front of them.

My students are extraordinary in their determination and resilience. Many come from different countries and are learning English while adjusting to a new environment and culture. They bring unique perspectives and a desire to succeed, even in the face of challenges. Each one of them is a storyteller in their own right, and they deserve resources that reflect their creativity, interests, and experiences. These materials will help them feel seen, heard, and understood, while also supporting their language development.
