Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My community is one that supports, protects, and encourages one another through the successful and tough times. You can catch my students coming alongside one another and helping their classmates reach their academic, emotional, and personal goals! Our school is Title I with 100% free and reduced lunch, and our students frequently express their love for learning and the love they have for our school community! My students look forward to their futures and know they are bright!
My Project
Our school is composed of families who struggle to make daily ends meet. Unfortunately, this means a lot of students don't get to interact with their parents very much because they are working long hours or even two jobs just to support their family. This results in students coming to school unequipped to tackle the academic, social, and emotional needs of the grade they are in.
Students often come to my class lacking the foundational skills needed to be a successful reader.
My hope is to use these materials during small group instruction to target 10 of my struggling reading students. I hope these materials are engaging and fun for them as they gain more exposure in a smaller setting to advance and catch up to grade level.
