My Project

My 2nd grade students are enthusiastic readers and artists, who know the joy of sharing great books and art. Many of my students come from low income families, and include multilingual learners, and may have limited access to a wide variety of reading materials and art supplies. Offering students books based on varied interests and reading levels, and art supplies that allow them to create, will help my students thrive. By integrating the arts throughout our curriculum, students can explore and demonstrate their learning through their art, and share with their classmates.

Students who feel empowered to choose their own books, and have access to a wide range of reading material, will develop a love of reading and a habit which will help them to become lifelong readers.

In helping students progress in their reading, I've selected different book series within Scholastic’s Branches books, which support students moving from early reader books to chapter books, along with picture books in both English and Spanish. An art drying rack will help free up space in our classroom. Class sets of markers, colored pencils, and modeling clay will help ensure all students have what they need to create.
