Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day, we repeat the chant: "This is the room, that has the kids, who want to learn, to read more books, to BUILD a better tomorrow". My students mean it, and so do I. I take full responsibility for ensuring that my students are fully capable of accessing books that will help them grow.

They are bright, inquisitive, and eager to learn.

At only 7 and 8 years old, their personalities are innovative and bold. No "diagnosis" or "test scores" will hold them back from achieving. I believe that each and every one of them will make sizable contributions to improve our society.

My Project

"Children are made readers on the laps of their parents." — Emilie Buchwald But what about the child of the single parent that works two and three jobs to make ends meet...and can't make it home in time to read to them? Or the student with a diagnosis/learning disability, that wants so badly to read, but just can't seem to figure out that word C-a-a-a-t? As a teacher, I believe in EVERY child. It is my responsibility to make books accessible to EVERY child. I am committed to making reading/listening to reading a reality for every child that crosses the threshold of my classroom.

I envision students falling in LOVE with books that they would otherwise not be able to understand or decode....with access to devices that provide TEXT-TO-SPEECH functions.

My students need 4 kindles, which include Text-to-Speech features. This new age "listening center" will make reading and being read to a reality, for ALL children.
