This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Welcome to our KIPP Elementary School! By 2020, our KIPP school will serve nearly 2,000 students in grades K-12. With a mission to create and sustain the highest quality school system for the children most underserved in our area, KIPP has maintained excellence in its growth, and will improve upon that standard – proving what is possible in public education.
Our KIPP school continues to serve the kids who need us most.
Very few of our 5th graders (less than 5%), in each year of the school’s existence, were reading at grade level when they arrived to KIPP. Less than half of our first Kindergarten students came prepared for Kindergarten, and only 1 out of 5 first grade students came to us on grade level. 100% of our students receive free meals, over 90% are students of color, and just over 15% are special needs students.
Within our mission is the charge that our KIPP students will develop the knowledge, skills, and character necessary for success in college and life, giving them the freedom to shape their futures and positively affect their communities.
My Project
When we open our classroom doors in August for the 2017-2018 school year, we want our KIPPsters to LOVE their new classroom libraries!! In order to fulfill our mission of supporting our students to and through college, we need comfy reading spaces that allow our kids to fall in love with books; books that will allow our students to wonder, question, criticize and dream. We are in need of bean bags, pillows, chairs, and more to create a space in classrooms where students just can't wait to curl up and read! Please donate today and help us prove the possible and make a difference in the lives of hundreds of students.
