My students need high interest books about Marvel's Black Panther! This selection includes rich texts and illustrations at a variety of levels so that ALL students can access stories of their favorite super hero!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are such talented 2nd grade members of their communities with inquisitive minds and a willingness to grow! They're predominantly from the Park Heights community of Baltimore City. My students are in an inclusion setting, with general education and special education needs served all in one classroom community. They work in whole group, small group, and independent modalities of learning in both reading and math. They become EXPERTS in setting and assessing long term goals, and value their growth over time. They are capable of anything they put their minds and their grit to!.My goal for them is to learn how to use their talents to change the world!
My Project
Friday, February 16, 2018: Black Panther first released in theaters. Monday, February 19, 2018: KIPPsters first greet each other with the Wakanda Salute!
Finally, my students could explore the many different areas of being Black through heroes that have served as important cultural icons for generations.
My students suddenly started to emulate the independent leadership of Nakia, and fearless curiosity of Shuri, and the compassionate understanding of T'Challa. They also began to explore the complex and beautiful history of Black people from Africa to the furthest reaches of the world. This project aims to continue their fascination with what this movie gave the world by providing our class library with more of Black Panther's stories through comics and graphic novels.
In an ideal world, I could take my students to experience Wakanda and meet T'Challa himself. However, in the spirit of building a love for reading, I would love to add the joy of Wakanda to their library. The items in my project are all graphic novels and comic books about the Black Panther's adventures in Wakanda and beyond. This selection includes rich texts and illustrations at a variety of levels so that ALL students can access stories of their favorite super hero!
