This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in south Los Angeles, we are a Title I campus and most of students are on free lunch. We have a high percentage of English Language learners within each classroom.
I moved grade levels again!
I am nervous and excited about teaching 1st grade. My class will be made of 26 five and six year olds, who are on cusp of becoming independent readers and writers.
Our year is off to a great to start and we are settling in with our new routines, but could use some help!
My Project
I have requested a variety of different types if seats for my classroom and lap writers. Right now, my classroom has just enough chairs for students to sit at their desks, but for small group instruction we have to move chairs and furniture around, which is a waste of time. Having simple stools at the small group and computer stations will allow students to move quickly and safely to different locations around the room. The other more unique seats and pillow lap writers will add a new level choice and comfort to our Daily 5 independent work time. Students will be able to spread out around the room to work on reading and writing, which will be better than being confined to their desks.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
