Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with students that have special needs; they require additional supports/accommodations in order to achieve academically. My students are funny, creative, animated, and kind. I feel fortunate to work with these kiddos that are also resilient and compassionate!
My scholars demonstrate improvement when they are allowed to practice what they are learning, (with applicable accommodation), in a comfortable and supportive setting.
In addition, they are learning to use taught strategies, class materials, and actionable teacher feedback to make gains in all academic subjects and to develop a growth mindset.
My Project
We have started our 2nd month of school and the students are doing so well even though we are going through a pandemic. They are so resilient and eager to learn. We are celebrating LatinX month and I want to make sure the students see themselves in books we read. The problem is that the books are in bookcases that have been moved to the sides of the room.
I am requesting swivel caster wheels to put on my bookcases; this will make it easy to move the bookcases as we are still socially distanced in the classroom.
Many of my books and supplies must be removed so if we had wheels under the bookcases, I can make sure that students can easily reach their materials or books for the beginning semester. The bookcases are currently pushed all to one side and it is hard to get the books we need.
I always incorporate culturally relevant books into my curriculum whenever possible and we know that racial equity and inclusion is a must in all schools.
I am also requesting a charging cart for my Chromebook devices to make Chromebooks more accessible in the classroom.
