My students would love the chance to Read and Ride in the library! Our school has approximately 600 students who visit the library each week. We are a Title 1 school with a diverse group of students. Over 36% of our students qualify for Free and Reduced Lunches. These exercise bikes will provide an active choice for flexible seating in my library.
My students come to the library to read, research, and utilize our Makerspace on a daily basis!
They would get the chance to actively engage both their body and their mind by riding while they read in the library.
I’d like to create an environment where my students can make healthy choices by reading, and riding in the library. A Read and Ride area in my library would provide a place to use up excess energy while also becoming more active when they read. Giving my students a chance to read while they ride in the library will allow the students an opportunity to exercise that they may not have when they go home. It will help them to actively learn while keeping their bodies active. During the school day, students often have to sit for long stretches at a time. Offering them a chance to stretch their legs as they stretch their mind will be a great benefit for them. Another benefit to having exercise bikes in our library will be to help reduce the students’ stress levels.
I know our students will love this addition to our library!
