Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of 33 five and six year olds who are always ready to learn. Despite, living in a high-crime, and low income area, they enjoy coming to school every day.
Our school goes above and beyond to try and provide students a place where they can feel safe and ready to learn but our limited resources make it extremely difficult to reach every student.
My students have been exposed to the wonderful world of books and are loving it. They need additional resources to continue their love of reading.
My Project
Kindergarten is exceptionally important because it lays the foundation. Learning can happen in many different ways, and in Kindergarten the most common, and powerful ways is through play and the use of engaging books. Research has shown that play is developmentally appropriate for young learners. We need toys that will engage students in problem solving and critical thinking. Students will also be learning social skills through play. In addition, we need Read Aloud books that will enrich our classroom library. We love to read and add books to our library constantly. Magnetic hooks will help store these toys and reading bags. Learning will happen in the most natural way, through play.
