My students need these read aloud books to serve as literary inspiration for my writing program. These books will demonstrate different genres of writing, and get my little authors extra motivated!
My kindergarten students are amazing young humans that are learning to navigate their way through educational experiences and peer interactions. They are a diverse bunch that hails from a bustling new community. Our K-6th school has a population of over 1500 students.
These students bring their different backgrounds and unique experiences to my class and together we become a family.
In our class, our one and only rule is "Be Kind." That really covers all of the main struggles, and reminds us of our family bond. We work hard daily to cooperate, problem-solve, and encourage others.
My Project
These books will serve as mentor texts for my writing program. The books give concrete examples of writing styles and genres. I will read the books prior to my writing lesson, and discuss what the author does. The texts are highly engaging and will help to build a love for literacy.
These materials will help to empower my kindergarten students and build their confidence in writing.
In writing, I begin with the importance of illustration, and teach them how to convey their ideas. I then move on to adding sounds, labels, and then sentences. These books are such great motivators for these young writers.
