This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a community of 20 diverse and amazing transitional kindergarten students. They love to explore, create, learn new things, sing, and play. There is a balance of developmental activities with academic learning in our classroom.

Students in my class are building social, emotional, and academic skills that will help them succeed today and well into the future.

They are eager learners who soak up learning with enthusiasm and humor. They are not from the best of neighborhoods and a large percentage are on free lunch, but regardless of status, they come to school ready to learn and to have fun!

My Project

These books will be used to get my kiddos thinking about ways to imagine, plan, create, and improve challenges they will be given based on the books read aloud. For example, using the book "Everything You Need to Build a Treehouse" will get the kiddos thinking about building and designing their own treehouse. They can draw and design what their treehouse will look like and then build it using various materials.

STEAM activities benefit my kiddos by exposing them to the creative process, encouraging collaboration, increasing critical thinking skills, as well as giving them a hands-on learning experience.

Using literature to introduce them to the activities builds my students' vocabulary, increases cognition, and increases their attention span.
