Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students this year are wonderful! They quickly adjusted to a new normal, distance learning or online learning. The students at our school are coming from a low income community where they are eager to learn! The group of students I work with range from Kindergarten to 6th grade. They learned a great deal in the last several months as we went on a big journey with distance learning. We have been remote since March and as we continue to try new things we see that students have a love for Reading when they are exposed to it.
My Project
The students did a phenomenal job as we transitioned to online learning. My colleagues and I have learned so much and tried our best to teach our students with little resources. As we continue to learn remotely, we are planning ahead to possibly begin the next school year in a similar way. The materials I am requesting will support both students and teachers in first grade.
The books I have requested are mentor texts to support our new remote learning resource and platform.
These books will be used by the teachers during their online meeting times with students. The students will be read aloud to prior to engaging in a literacy lesson. When we return to our school building, we will continue to use these books for read alouds and small group instruction. The books I am requesting provide students with an integration of Science and rich literature. There's nothing like reading an actual book to students and with your help, we can make this happen!
