My Students

I have a classroom full of 25 awesome kindergartners! They are excited, funny, and genuinely love learning. They come to my class with a big heart and full of wonder! My kiddos all come from a low socio-economic status. 100% of students receive free breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner. My students are special because though ability level and backgrounds are very different, there is seamless integration where each child feels welcome, respected, and loved. Each student is truly unique in their own little way and I encourage them to stand out! I'm so thankful to be their first teacher and start this journey of school with them. They make "work" not feel like work!

My Project

Kindergarteners grow so much as they start full-time school for the first time. Our classroom is a community of learners learning to work together. Our favorite saying is, "It's okay to make mistakes, that's the way we learn."

My kindergartners are readers, artists, writers, scientists, mathematicians, performers, and explorers!

Kindergarten is a special milestone as children enter school for the very first time. It is the teacher's job to create and foster a community of learners. I would like to do this through picture books. Students love being read to. A picture book can teach students so many different things. It can teach students so many life skills.

If there is one thing I tell parents of all ages, it is to read to their child every night! Read-aloud allows for students to discuss a story. In kindergarten, students will begin trying to read the story themselves after hearing the teacher. These are the beginning stages of learning to read! Please consider donating to this project so we can have high-quality books to discuss, read, and discuss!
