My Students
Welcome to the 2020 school year! Usually a time of year that is filled with such excitement, but has become a time of much anxiety. This year, I will be welcoming another first grade group into my classroom. However, this year will be anything but like years past. It will be very different. The students at Bronx Delta are a diverse group of students who are energetic, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. They love coming to school and learning new things each day. I want to make sure that I can do everything in my power to welcome my students back into the school building and into my classroom. I want to create an environment that is safe, welcoming, nurturing, and accepting.
I would absolutely love if I could provide my students with read alouds that promote acceptance, love, and safety.
These books will help me really target the social and emotional needs of the students returning to the building.
My Project
Whether we are remote or in the school building, I will be able to read these books to my students. These books all send powerful and welcoming messages. Whether it be about safety, calming their fears, acceptance of all, my students will automatically feel reassured just by listening to these stories.
My students need to feel safe and loved when walking back into school.
Even though it will look different, they need to know that they will be cared for and welcomed. These books will help me with this.
The books will also spark conversation that will allow the students to share how they are/have been feeling about what's happening in the world right now. Their lives have been at a stand still for months now and I can only hope to help ease their minds, fears, and hearts in my classroom.
