As a teacher in a Title I school, in a relatively small coastal community, many of my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. These challenges have recently been exacerbated by the effects of Hurricane Florence. Several of my students are still displaced or living in homes undergoing reconstruction. Students are coming to my classroom on many different levels, academically. The students are excited and eager to learn new things. I have several students who are English-language learners as well as some students with academic challenges. I want my students to be exposed to rich and meaningful literature, not just in language arts, but in math, science, and social studies as well.
My Project
These texts will be used as read alouds in language arts, math, science, and social studies. Providing my students with grade appropriate and appealing texts to introduce and reiterate topics is very important to them making connections and developing a deeper understanding. These texts are highly recommended for second graders! Some of these texts are recommended resources for our new math material, Total Motivation Math, other texts are recommended by Hello Literacy, specifically for second graders. Integrating literature and read alouds across all subject areas is important, especially in primary grades, and I want to expose my students to as much literature as possible!
