My school is a wonderful and unique place for learning. What makes this place so special are the kids that walk through are doors each day. I teach at a title 1, low income school in Kentucky. Many of my students come from challenging home lives. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Over 60 percent of our students are English English language learners. We have students from all over the world including Kenya, Cuba, Thailand, Vietnam, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, and the Congo. The students come with unique backgrounds and experiences to share, but they have to work twice as hard. My students learn English while becoming literate in their own language as well. Despite the many challenges my students face, they come to school excited to learn, so that one day, they can lead successful lives.
My Project
My students are from low income families who really need your help. Although, they face many challenges at home, they come to school each day ready to soak up all the learning they can!
My students faces brighten up during read-alouds.
We begin each day with a good book to help students grow an interest in reading and hopefully, start the day with a smile.
Students in my class have shown a great interest in Pete-the-Cat books. He is a friendly, hip cat that shows us the most important things in life, are not things after all. His books have themes of friendship, sharing and staying positive, which is perfect for my first graders!
My kids will be very excited for your help, and to begin the day with a new Pete-the-Cat story!
