Have you every loved something so much you wished everything you touched would turn into it? That is what my students are going to feel when they finish reading this novel study. My students will be wishing everything they touch would turn into more books.
I have some of the hardest working third graders.
They live in a very rough neighborhood on the east side of a large city in Indiana, but they do not let that get in the way of their education. My students have a desire to learn and do not let the distractions of their home life get in the way of that. Our school strives to push students to their full potential with a special focus on reading and math. We are a Title I school with limited resources, yet our students strive to be the absolute best.
The books I am requesting will have a direct impact on student literacy. When I'm reading aloud to the class, each child will have their own copy of the book to follow along. This will strengthen each student's word recognition, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. Listening to the teacher read the story is one thing, but for each child to have a copy of The Chocolate Touch, in their hands will be very powerful. Not only will students be able to follow along while I read aloud, they will be able to take the books home to practice reading with someone at home. Many of our students' parents want to help, but aren't sure how or don't have the resources. Having these novels for students to take home gives the parent exactly what they need to help their child.
Your contribution to the project will provide literacy opportunities for all of my students.
I plan to share the novels with team members in my building to reach as many students as possible. Students who would otherwise not have access to novels will have different titles in their hands because of your generosity.
