it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I’m a school counselor at a Pk-8 center. I teach students social and emotional skills in various fun ways. The students are very creative and active. They learn best when engaged in role play, taking part in dramatization and playing with game boards. They love in-class guidance lessons because they appreciate the stories I bring from my bibliography that teach them about positive character.
The students are eager and motivated readers even though a majority are English language learners.
The students enjoy reading books that they can relate to. I read aloud to the Pk-1st grade although this project will impact approximately 500 students in grades 2, 3, 4 and 5. The students from 2nd through 5th grade are already excited to be part of this project!
My Project
The Portable PA system and the throwable speaker will be used to encourage my students to read aloud during class reading. My elementary students' voices are very low and the throwable microphone would allow their voices to resonate in the class. I'd like to make reading aloud more fun and less scary for them.
This project will also help engage students in all other activities that require them to speak up.
The importance of students being heard is monumental in building their confidence in reading and acquiring the language skills necessary for them to succeed in learning English. The speaker system will be used everyday and will impact approximately 500 students by the end of the school year.
