I have fallen in love with my students' perseverance and bright spirits! Despite the daily challenges my students face, they come to school with smiles on their faces ready to tackle whatever is thrown at them. My students work very hard and they are super excited to learn.
I teach at a Title I funded school where one hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many students in my school receive food kits for the weekends and are placed in the Angel Tree program each year at Christmas. Despite living in a perpetual cycle of poverty, their spirits remain unbreakable.
It's no secret that children from difficult backgrounds are underdogs from the very beginning. That is why they need a champion, someone who believes in them enough to give them a chance at success. This project will open the door to uncharted territory for my students and allow them to reach a level of success they never knew existed.
My Project
We have recently started a 200 Book Challenge, which challenges our classroom to read 200 books together this year. My students are loving the different titles and variety of books that we have to choose from! The books we've read so far are books from my personal collection as well as about 4 dozen that we've acquired through generous donors on Donors Choose!
After asking for input from my students, they have selected their favorite books and would like to get the entire series to read for our 200 Book Challenge!
These series include: Pop Classics books by Kim Smith, Alexander books by Judith Viorst, and Pigeon books by Mo Willems. This project will add over 20 more books for us to read and help us reach our goal of 200 books for the year!
