FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Hohns's classroom raised $307
This project is fully funded
I teach a combination of 12 developmentally delayed, autistic, and mentally disabled children in a cross categorical Kindergarten. They are a lively bunch of children who enjoy listening to stories, and retelling stories through dramatic play. Favorite stories are frequently requested for repeated readings and often the arrival of a particular book in the reading center is much anticipated.
It is my wish to accumulate a number of stories on tape and CD for students to enjoy in a listening center and again during dramatic re- tellings with student involvement. Allowing children to hear stories over and over again provides opportunities for children to retell events and make story connections with success and to feel comfortable using symbols, letters and words to write about story events and characters. Early learning and literacy go hand and hand as young children begin to understand print concepts, begin to read predictable text and sight words. It is a combination of early learning engaging activities and opportunities that set young children on the path to enjoy print and take risks with reading, retelling and writing.
I would like to open up a reading center with a variety of favorite stories. I have chosen three different sets; a classic set, a families set, and a Dr. Seuss set. Thank you in advance for your generous contribution to my classroom listening center. It will bring joy and endless opportunities to hear favorite stories over and over again.
