My Students

My first grade students are excited to challenge themselves to become the best readers and writers that they can be. They are eager to try out their emerging phonics skills and high frequency word knowledge to learn more about the world around them. They also want to share their experiences with others through their writing.

Our classroom of energetic first graders inspire each other to become the best readers and writers they can be by encouraging each other to experiment with words in different ways.

They accomplish this by building relationships with each other and with students from other grade levels as they share their learning experiences through literacy activities. These activities develop crucial communication skills that will assist these 21st century learners in their future careers.

My Project

These books, rich literature activities, and writing tools will enable students to continue on their path to becoming life-long readers and writers. Our class will explore sets of books during small group literacy stations and work together to complete engaging literacy games purchased with the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to practice new high frequency word recognition and decoding skills. Students will also choose books based on their interests to read independently during quiet reading time. For additional practice, students will also be able to take the literacy games home to demonstrate their skills to their families. Further connections will be made as students author writing pieces to share their personal experiences and what they have learned from their readings with their classmates.

These engaging literacy materials can open up a whole new world for these beginning readers as they expand their knowledge of words.

The books will be correlated to students' reading abilities and interests which will encourage them to reach their goal of becoming the best readers and writers that they can be. Students will be kept engaged in their literacy learning as well as making connections about the world around them. Your help can reinforce the importance of literacy for these enthusiastic new readers.
