Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a second grade teacher in the City of Chicago. This classroom of learners come from ethnically diverse, low-income families. There are many challenges that face my learners. Our school provides free breakfast and lunch to all students. My classroom is comprised of English language learners, students with individualized education plans, and general education students.
My 32 students are ENERGETIC and EAGER to learn!
My goal is to provide these wonderful students with the educational opportunities necessary to become lifelong learners.
My Project
I am requesting a classroom subscription to Scholastic News. These weekly readings focus on science and social studies topics. Students learn essential skills in this cross curricular magazine. Pupils read nonfiction text that boost skills in a balanced literacy program.
Brightly colored photographs will grab students attention as they read interesting articles.
Students develop reading fluency by repeated readings. They have the opportunity to take the issues home and share their new knowledge by reading and discussing it with family.
Scholastic News Online is a digital component that has access to videos, text-to-speech audio, vocabulary, and skill games. Some of the topics include growth mindset, fire safety, needs of a plant and habitats. Additionally, students will learn about Veterans Day and Martin Luther King Jr.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
