Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A key ingredient to helping students love to read is selecting texts that they connect to with their head and heart. Each issue of Scholastic magazines includes current topics that help students expand their horizons on how they view the world and how they can impact it. These skills are key for our middle school students who are beginning to broaden their horizons and build their understanding of the world beyond themselves.
While reading Scholastic magazines, students not only build the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills they need to succeed in school but also expand their outlook on the world and the potential they have to shape it through their experiences.
Whether it be non-fiction texts about the Syrian refugee crisis, historical texts on the Holocaust, or a narrative account from a teen with disabilities, Scope challenges students to push beyond what they know and consider what might be by learning about and accepting those with different circumstances than their own.
