At the Title I school I teach at there are over 40 different languages spoken and many of my students are not from the United States. My goal is to empower my students through language and academic excellence. My mission is to foster determination, respect, diversity, and inclusion. Since my students come from homes where a language other than English is spoken, they have limited English proficiency. My students are in the ESOL program, and since the beginning of the school year I have noticed some regression of their language language skills since the emergency school closures due to COVID-19.
For this upcoming school year, I would like to be able to address their unique needs in order for them to be more successful learning the English language.
They love picture books so much! They find them so engaging and love exploring the various illustrations. My hope is that these new books will motivate them to come to school each day and excited to read!
My Project
My students are curious learners and destined to be voracious readers! The books I am requesting will enhance our library and reading experience in my classroom. Not only will they assist in creating a print-rich environment, but will spark their interest. My students love reading and will be so appreciative of the new opportunities to read. In addition to these books being on their level, the titles are guaranteed to keep our reading stamina up all year! I am so excited by the opportunities these carefully selected books will bring!
