My Students

I teach 12-15-year-old middle school students in a Self Contained MOID class. These students have a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments. Many of my students are focusing their time in school working on readiness skills as well as job-related skills. Some are working on functional academic skills.

Despite the challenges my students endure, they truly enjoy coming to school and learning.

They work hard and have a positive attitude. I strive to foster that enjoyment and create meaningful learning experiences for each of my students.

My students are curious about subjects, such as science and history. Because of their learning difficulties, they benefit from auditory activities such as listening to stories and books being read to them.

My Project

I would love to fill my classroom library with biographies that celebrate history makers. The books I chose include those who influenced science and/or history but are no longer alive, such as Walt Disney, Helen Keller, Susan B. Anthony, and others.

Because reading is such a challenge for my students, these books would be ones I would read aloud.

I read to my students every day so the books chosen would be appealing and interesting to them. The books will not only provide my students with science and/or history information, but they would be beneficial for vocabulary and listening comprehension skills.
