Our school is a Title I school, serving children of military and non-military families near a large military base, many of whom are on free or reduced lunch programs. The majority of my students come from a military family and currently have one, or both parents deployed. There are almost 800 students in the school and 23 third graders in my class.
These students are inquisitive, bright, and curious about the world around them.
They are constantly asking questions and have a thirst for learning. I would love to be able to introduce and explore interesting science and social studies topics from around the world, not just Fayetteville, North Carolina.
My Project
I am requesting Scholastic News, Science Spin, and Geography Spin subscriptions for my students to be able to read in class throughout the school year. By receiving this subscription, my students will be able to explore the world around them that they otherwise would not be able to.
Access to these wonderful resources will improve reading comprehension skills, science skills and their knowledge of geographical content.
Teaching students about current events at their own level is imperative for growing students into true global citizens.
My hope for my students is for them to have access to news and scientific studies that will keep them engaged, and help them grow into the scientists, researchers, and citizens of the future.
