Mrs. Zeis from Cincinnati OH is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need the requested books including Apples for Everyone, Dinosaurs and Snow is Falling to enrich their vocabulary, language and literacy concepts, and world knowledge.

The students at our school come from very diverse backgrounds. One hundred percent of students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Students represent more than 35 nationalities and languages. Each day students attend one of 5 language classes daily, including: English as a Second Language, Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Arabic. We are a magnet school in an urban school district with students coming from a variety of places across the city to attend our school.
Kindergarten is an exciting and very important year in a child’s education.
I want my students to learn the importance of their education beginning in kindergarten. We are learning so much every day and I want them all to continue their success throughout their education. My kindergarten students LOVE to learn!
The donations to this project will help my diverse students expand their vocabulary, literacy skills and overall content knowledge. The books requested for this project are a part of a yearlong unit that covers a variety of topics. The books will be used for whole class read aloud and then be a part of weekly center activities to reinforce concepts. Each book fits within a weekly theme and typically includes fiction and non-fiction pairs or books that fit within the same topic.
In the kindergarten classroom, read aloud is a daily occurrence.
Effectively using read aloud with engaging children’s books can expand a child’s knowledge so much more than you may imagine. From seemingly simple concepts to the much more complex- the possibilities are endless! Through classroom read aloud children are exposed to proper reading fluency, reading with excitement and enthusiasm, a more sophisticated vocabulary and so much more. You may be surprised hearing kindergarten students using words like nocturnal, delight, or frightened- but teach them and they can learn SO much! Not only is it exciting for me as their teacher to hear them use these powerful words, the students are just as excited if not more excited to learn the words and use them. The content, vocabulary and concepts within these books teach the students about a range of topics from specific animals to family and friendship and so much more! Developing a child’s knowledge early in their education can significantly impact their education as they advance.
Reading these high quality children’s books aloud to the students can benefit the students in so many ways!
