I work in a Montessori inner-city classroom. In this environment, we spend the first three years of education together learning and growing. We become a true family within our school and neighborhood community. I strive to give the students an understanding of our global community and ways to best become a global citizen. We learn through hands-on activities as well as a curiosity to understand things that are different from our experiences. We work hard to make sure we are successful as well as helping everyone else in our amazing community.
My Project
We are fortunate to be able to choose the types of literature the children read instead of given a certain reading series to follow. This is wonderful since there are so many children's books available to classrooms. We also try to give the kiddos different types of materials to read. Magazines being among their favorite.
Nonfiction seems to be a favorite for everyone.
With a multi- aged classroom, the different levels based upon the same topic give the children a familiar topic to discuss.
They are kind, helpful, inquisitive, funny, and caring people. Some have traveled the world, while other have never left our city. They are all unique in a special way, and our community appreciates and celebrates their differences. However, they are all the same in one way, they have a strong desire to learn and make this a better world for all
