This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
To kick off Read Across America, my students would benefit from getting their own copies of The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. I would love to introduce this classic to my students as part of their fourth quarter unit for their Spanish class.
While the book is in English, I believe it is important to focus on culture unit lessons even if they are in English.
The intention here is to introduce them to a Latina author with a book that has been popular for years while also allowing them to compare and contrast Esperanza's (main character) life with their own culture.
