Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students all live and attend school in the poorest district in the country - The South Bronx. My students also all qualify for free or reduced lunch. I am a special education middle school teacher, and teach a self-contained bridge class (multiple grades in one classroom) with grades 5, 6, and 7. My students are all a wonderful bunch who are classified as having Autism. Their skills range from pre-reading skills, such as letter and sound recognition, to reading at a first grade level - all below the national average. My school's student demographics consist of 3% Asian, 34% African American, 60% Hispanic, 2% White, and 23% are English Language Learners.
My students are eager to learn, which is why it's important to keep their experience in the classroom fresh and innovative.
In order to accommodate their needs and learning styles, we are constantly incorporating new ways to teach, learn, and reflect, all while having fun. My students are ready to learn and we are extremely grateful for any supports you have to offer.
My Project
The use of ink in a classroom, is essential as it allows us to print materials that support our students in the classroom and at home. Ink also helps us send important notices and letters home to ensure teachers and parents are working together to best meet the child's needs.
With my students reading below grade level and performing just as low in math, the phonics, reading, and math kits serve as an additional and tactile resource.
These resources will help my students build on their strengths to become productive and educated citizens, with the help of donors like you.
Finally, the headsets serve as a resource for our technology to ensure students can listen to online books and games that support their learning.
