Help me give my students the gift of reading. Storyworks is an amazing reading magazine that focuses on five different literary genres in every issue with six issues a year and access to five years worth of magazines.

My Project

Although we want our students to be using the schools curriculum, even the best curriculum has it's limitations. Most curriculum favors breadth over depth. It tries to cover everything a little bit, but not really enough to get the students to mastery on important reading skills. This is where Storyworks is a fantastic supplemental resource. Since Storyworks gives you access to the past 5 years of magazines you have a total of 30 magazines to use during the year. You can also search content by reading skills, which means you have multiple texts to use to teach each of those skills.

In a digital world with even very young students having access to social media and video games, printed material is becoming increasingly rare and often overlooked.

Even the best reading curriculum now has substantial parts of it, if not the whole thing, as digital content. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as we are now in a digital world. However, when students are first learning or practicing reading skills, working digitally can actually be a hinderance. Having the text in front of students allows them to better interact with it by highlighting and or underling important ideas. Once learned, they can then transfer those skills to a digital platform. That is one reason why I am asking for a subscription that includes the digital content for a dollar more.

Finally, we all know that students do best with high interest material. Storyworks uses full color magazines, background videos and author interviews to make them highly engaging. The students really love to use them, especially since they get to keep the magazines when the class is done with them for the month.
