Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I met my new students for the first time on August 31, 2017, at our "Meet the Teacher Night," where my students entered their class to find it all decorated and ready for learning. After Hurricane Harvey, my classroom no longer exists. I met 16 to 18 students, and they appeared to be energetic and ready to learn. Most of my students are experiencing school for the first time, and I would like them to have an enjoyable and fun year of learning in my class. Most of my students come from low-income families with single parents. We are a Title I school, which means 98% of our kids are on free or reduced price lunch.
My Project
My students will benefit greatly with the use of different math resources like the rocket counting math game, that will allow the students to count the objects and place on the rocket. Using the number monkeys, my students can practice number recognition as well as ordering numbers. The whole phonemic awareness kit will allow students to work in small group with me on skills such as, syllable counting, rhyming words, and beginning sounds. The alphabet monkeys that are in upper and lowercase will help students match each monkey to it's partner. The table top easel will help during our small group instruction, so that students can write and draw pictures as we discuss different activities doing small group instruction.
