My Students

Energetic! Open-minded! Innovative! My exuberant 4th-grade class focuses on a growth mindset, kindness, and, above all, respect for one another.

Our school is a diversified blend of cultures developing skills to support literacy through books.

Our students value the intentional practice of using what they read and have collaborative conversations to build strategies for higher-level reading and responding.

My innovative students are building a future of inclusion and empathy. They need books to facilitate their visual reasoning of what they read. This is the state of mind when a person becomes fully immersed in an activity with intentional practice. When they enter this state, it encourages oral traditions of storytelling and creative expression.

My Project

My students are in need of building their reading appetite and need fiction books that they connect with. They have limited choices in the classroom and consistently ask for more to read.

Building literacy skills happens more frequently when having a high-interest level book to read from.

The lessons that my students receive require multiple-level fiction books. They build not only knowledge but have conversations about what they read with other students. Through these literary conversations, they use their voice to build comprehension skills that also support narrative writing. Books serve as mentor texts of good writing that are needed.
