This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help me give the gift of learning about the world through reading. First grade is such an important time in a growing child's life, developmentally and educationally. In my first grade classroom students are expected to progress at a rapid rate, but many times are unable to do so because of lack of materials. My students are learning to read, write and analyze high order math questions with limited resources. Working in a Title I school comes with challenges, one being lack of leveled texts needed for students to progress to the next reading level.
My Project
One of my biggest goals as a first grade teacher is to see my students' love for reading grow throughout the year. In order to accomplish this, it is crucial to have a variety of books to spark each child's interest and pique their curiosity of the world. Having a leveled library in the classroom with many different topics will help to do this.
Many of my students who are not able to read on grade level can increase their comprehension by listening to books on tape, which is why it is crucial to have headphones for them to do so.
