This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Oh my students... They're self-motivated, attentive and well behaved. No kidding. They realize how lucky they are to be here and each one shows so much promise and potential.

Several students have already come up to me after class saying, "I can tell I'm getting better at this," and "I'm already a better artist than when I started."

Yeah... tuck that away. That's what I take home with me.

Some of the students are oozing natural ability (it's ridiculous) and some are now realizing that creating art isn't just something that we, as humans, do naturally... It's also a skill that can be learned and developed. Even if they feel that they're not artistically gifted, they're starting to see that yes, it is in there and it's my job to bring it out.

My Project

My supply is running low so I need a fresh batch of paint markers this year.

My students absolutely love to paint murals in the hallways and most of them prefer to use paint markers to outline their design in order to make it stand out.

Apparently, walls are pretty hard on paint markers and many of them are no longer functional. I've mainly ordered black and white markers for outlining but I've also included a few colors for final touches. I'm excited to have students back in class so that we can complete where we left off.

My goal is to build confidence. Many students have never gone beyond small pencil drawings on paper. Painting a large mural on a public wall can be intimidating at first but once the assignment is complete, they are able to step back and look at their accomplishment with pride.
