Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a class of energetic, enthusiastic, and amazing students. Our school is a Title I school where most students come from low-income or poverty-stricken homes. All of the students receive free or reduced-rate lunch. Most are English Language Learners, while some have special needs. These students come to school eager to learn every day with big smiles on their faces, regardless of their circumstances.
I want to help these students in every way that I can in order for them to be successful in reaching their goal of developing their skills, and of course, have fun!
My Project
For the last few years, my school had a subscription to (in my opinion) one of the best online reading tools. When I taught first grade, I was able to print off a lot of the leveled readers and used it during my small groups lessons whether it was to find the character/setting of a story or focus on a reading strategy. Last year, I had my kindergarten students use it as part of their independent reading time during small groups and they absolutely enjoyed it! I made sure that the books were available on their level and it even helped with reading interventions!
This school year, however, our district decided not to renew the subscription and I was truly disappointed!
Raz-Kids not only helped my students strengthen their reading skills but it also exposed them to nonfiction books as well. Please help me provide my students with a one-year subscription to Raz-Kids so that they can enjoy reading books at their level whether from school or from home!
