This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very special first graders in a high needs area of a borough in New York. Many of my students are English language learners and children with special needs. Each student is unique in his or her own way and deserves to have the best educational experience possible. All of my students receive free lunch and come to school every day eager to learn.

Unfortunately, my classroom does not always have the supplies we need.

Every donation makes a difference in my students' lives. I look forward to creating projects that will make our classroom a joyful learning environment. Thank you!

My Project

Raz-Kids is a comprehensive leveled reading resource for students and teachers. Through an easily accessible interactive online learning portal, my students can access dozens of engaging e-books tailored specifically to their instructional reading level. Students can listen to, and/or read the books at their own pace. They can also record themselves reading and answer corresponding comprehension questions about each text. I can access these recordings and assess their reading progress with a running record, and use this information to plan and adjust my instruction. When students master a text level, they advance to the next reading level, where they can access lengthier and more difficult text.

I love that I can get fresh reading material into my students' hands, easily monitor my students' progress, and even conduct guided reading groups using Raz-Kids' digital content.

With plans for the return to school in the fall still very much up in the air, I would like to have this resource available for my students, so that we can hit the ground running in the fall with the literacy resources they need right at their fingertips.
