About My Students

Tina and Betsy are rising seniors for the Lady Ravens Soccer Team. They have been team members for the past 3 years and have contributed to the team's success in being the reigning District Champions for the past 5 years. They are both immigrant students that will be first generation college students. Their school is a Title 1 school, meaning at least 66% of the student population qualifies for free and reduced lunch.

Although the team has found success over the years, this year the seniors want to go to the next level and make it to the Regional finals.

In general our team is pretty small in size. When we show up to games we are always the smallest and we get pushed around. Also, when some of our players have seen college coaches, they've made comments that we need to get bigger and stronger. None of us have access to a gym, but we come to practice almost everyday in the summer. If we had equipment to help us to become stronger and faster, we believe we could go further in the Regional Competition and become more appealing to college coaches. This equipment will also allow us as a team to set individual and team goals about our fitness that we can keep each other accountable for throughout preseason. This will support a positive team culture.

We want to not just improve as individual players, but also as a team. We want to learn better fitness routines and apply them to our practices so that we can have a more successful season.

We hope that with new equipment we can take our training to the next level and really see results as individuals and as a team.

We will be the seniors this season so that means that we will be the leaders. We are responsible for our team. We want hold our team accountable to high expectations in every aspect of the game- mentally, strategically, and physically. This will help us to develop our leadership skills that will follow us the rest of our life.

Our community is often not respected because it is a low income and immigrant community. In the sports world, other teams from other districts look down on us. We want to show that we are just as capable as any other team at greatness. We have proven that before by winning the District Championship for the past 5 years. Now we want to show that we can be great outside of our district as well.
