Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love teaching third grade. My students are sweet, fun, and eager to learn. They come from very diverse cultures and backgrounds. The majority are second language learners. I also have students with special needs and gifted and talented students. All my students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Third graders are naturally creative and curious, and the future is full of possibilities.

As their teacher, I love the excitement they demonstrate when learning more about themselves and the world around them.

My Project

After a year and a half of online learning, my students have been starving for books to hold and read. Since they have been back at school this year, they have flown through the books on our bookshelves, and have read nearly everything in class.

I would like to fill my shelves with readers’ requests and books that highlight diversity.

Book series like “Mindy Kim” and “The Last Kids on Earth” have characters my students can relate to. Others, like “The Butter Battle Book” and “The Sneetches” by Dr. Seuss will help my students to realize that our differences should bring us together instead of tearing us apart.

The fidget toys will motivate them to accomplish their individual reading goals, and the growth mindset bookmarks will be both motivating and inspirational.

These books, fidget toys and bookmarks will help them see themselves as readers while celebrating the beauty of diversity in our classroom.
