it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyday when we begin our literacy block, my students cannot wait to pull out their independent reading books. They are always so excited to jump into the pages of their stories and I love how thrilled they are about their reading. I would love that passion to continue on with them forever.
My students really enjoy reading to themselves and sharing their stories with others.
They are all still young and just beginning second grade, and most of them still need to read the words out loud in order to fully sound them out and comprehend the stories. When there is a classroom of students reading out loud, it tends to get a little noisy, which ultimately distracts everyone. In this district, most students go home to parents who don't speak English and can not help them with their reading. In order to progress and be successful, they need to get as much practice as they can.
My Project
If we had a class set of Whisper Phones, students would be able to hear themselves read while not disturbing others who are working nearby. It will be easier for each individual student to hear their own voice and better understand the words they are reading. This will lead to better decoding and fluency, since they will have more time throughout the day to practice.
If students can read the way they want to at both school and home, then it will encourage them to keep reading.
By doing this and improving their skills, they will be able to be more successful in every subject and help them read their potential.
