My students need progress charts, easy access to graphic organizers, and a visual organization system so finding books is simple and encouraging.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students LOVE to read, and thanks to our last Donor's Choose project, we have begun to fill our library with leveled books they cannot stop reading!
My students attend a Title 1, high poverty, very diverse public school in California, where about half of the students receive reduced price or free lunches.
We're an overflow school, so students are constantly coming and going and their reading levels are highly varied. My classroom alone has students reading at levels from Kindergarten to 4th grade. As a new teacher, I was given some books from a previous teacher, but our library is a mess with no way to organize it properly- my students find it difficult and frustrating to navigate.
My Project
Right now, our library is a mess of piles. I cannot organize it fast enough, before my 30 students are tearing it apart trying to find their level! Book bins will make it easy and visual to see everything in the right place. They absolutely LOVE their progress charts- we are filling them up faster than I can afford them! We are tracking the pages they read, the books they finish, scores on comprehension quizzes, and our reading levels to see how quickly they move up. More progress charts ensure my students can visually see their progress- those charts are their biggest motivator! We also have graphic organizers, writing prompts, and lined paper in bins all over the classroom, but with one convenient and central place to store all of our reading helpers, the cubbies will be a huge help!
Third grade is an enormous year for children!
They are no longer learning to read- they are reading to learn. If a student is behind grade level in reading, the chances of them being left confused and sad multiply exponentially. However, not having the exact level they need means that my students get frustrated and give up. Being able to organize our library would mean the world to us!
