My students need new leveled texts to use in our classroom library.

My Students
I have been teaching for thirteen years now, first in rural Tucson and now in Seattle. Unfortunately, many of my class books have been around just as long or longer. My classroom library is a crazy quilt of inherited, scavenged, and book club bonus point books. My students need something new!!!
My school is really amazing.
We are located in the inner city Central District but we also border the International District. The result is students from all the world as well as students whose families have lived here for generations. Our play yard would warm your heart as you can see children of many different races and cultures playing together with little concern for the politics and prejudices of the world at large.
I teach 2nd grade so of course my kids are also the cutest. My students are strong, smart, and amazing and it is my wish to give them every opportunity that they deserve. The reality of the situation is that I can only give them what our school can afford in this time of extreme budget cuts.
My Project
I would like new books for my classroom. I have been teaching for a number of years and while I have amassed a large library covering multiple grade levels, everything is quite shoddy. I am a very good scrounger and have inherited more than one retired teacher's books. I do acquire a new book now and then but these are quickly lost in the shelves. I want my students to love books and to love reading like I do.
I really think it would be a boost to this effort if we finally had some new texts to read and yes to smell. I want my students to be the first to crack the spines of new books instead of being the latest to tape them up. The books I have requested are also leveled so it will make it easier for students to shop for books that match their interest and growing ability.
I have a vision of my second graders coming back on a Monday and going to hang up their back packs.
As they walk by the classroom library they see shelf after shelf brimming with new, current, and colorful books. I guarantee that if you help this to come true you may literally hear their squeals of joy soon to be followed by the much quieter turning of pages.
