My Students

Our school is in a suburb of Kansas City with sixty-five percent of our two hundred and fifty students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Many of our students are also part of the back snack program because they do not have food at home on the weekends.

The students at our school are an enthusiastic bunch that are coming from challenging situations.

Despite the many challenges our students face, our teachers are able to work together to implement creative ways to encourage our students to learn. Our school is also home to a special class for students that have been classified with emotional disorders. These students are integrated into the regular classroom as much as possible so that they can have the opportunity to learn and grow with their peers.

Our school is a positive place for students to grow because we have a very caring staff that will go the extra mile to see our students succeed.

My Project

Students love to play rhythms and drumming is a very fun way to learn how rhythm works. Playing buckets for drums is fun, but does not give students the same level of excitement as playing a real drum. Tunable Tubano drums are a great investment because they are specifically designed with the classroom in mind. Students can play with confidence knowing the drum has a great sound and it is made to last for many years. Students will use these drums for playing in drum circles, practicing new rhythms and creating their own music.

Performing on a real drum gives students a sense of true musicianship and provides a quality sound to share with an audience.

When we participate in drumming circles, the students learn listening skills, team work, the value of each person in the circle and musicianship. Playing on real instruments enhances that experience for the students. Drumming together also helps students forget about their troubles for a while. It is hard to focus on anything but the moment when concentrating to keep a pattern going while rhythms are being played by other drums.
