My Students

My 6th graders light up the room when they walk in! Seeing their smiling faces each day reminds me of the purpose that I have in this job. Many of them come from broken homes or places without many resources; some are even brand new to this country. They don't let that get in the way of their education.

Many students know the value of their education because their parents have instilled in them that it is their ticket "out".

The demographics of my students are mainly lower income as we are a Title 1 school; the largest in our district. I want to provide them with as many resources and tools as I can to help solidify their foundation before they enter the real world as productive citizens.

My Project

Flocabulary is used daily in my classroom to reinforce skills and topics that we are covering in ELA (English Language Arts), reading, and writing. There is a plethora of skills covered, so there is always a way for me to tie it into lessons each day. I am also able to integrate cross-curricular subjects and material because of the various subject areas that are also available.

My students LOVE the videos because it relays the content to them in a format they "understand".

I often hear them rapping the strategies to themselves later in class because the tunes are always so catchy! As their teacher, it warms my heart to hear them use the skills I have taught them beyond the original lesson.
